Each summer, the Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival showcases an exceptional
group of musicians from around the world. Their level of artistry combined with
Artistic Director, James Tocco's imaginative programming has placed the Great
Lakes Chamber Music Festival among the top in the country. National recognition
has been garnered in such esteemed publications as The New York Times, the Wall
Street Journal, and Travel and Leisure Magazine.
Even with talented artists and
successful concerts, ticket sales provide less than half of the Festival's revenue.
It is important to keep ticket prices reasonable, so that high-caliber chamber
music is widely accessible.
The Festival has been fortunate to be embraced by many generous individuals who
have supported its mission and activities over the years. In addition to spawning
world-class performances, contributions also enable growing educational and community
outreach programs. These include pre-concert lectures, masterclasses with Festival
artists that are free to the public, as well as the esteemed Shouse Institute,
which assists young artists on the brink of great careers.
There are many ways to contribute to the Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival.
Donations are the catalyst for enabling the Festival to grow and succeed. In
addition to the following categories, you may add a tax-deductible donation to
your ticket order.
The Annual Fund:
General operating support helps underwrite the costs of concerts, artists and the daily activities associated with running a Festival. Donations of $25 or more will be acknowledged in the Festivals Annual Program Book compiled in May of each year.
Special or Honorary Gifts:
Celebrate a friend's birthday, or a family member's graduation, marriage or
retirement. Honor the memory of a loved one. Honorary gifts are a wonderful way
to personalize a donation to the GLCMF while giving a unique gift to your
closest friends or family. We will send an acknowledgement letter to you and the
recipient.
Stock Gifts:
In addition to checks and credit cards, donations can be made with appreciated stock and other marketable securities. Contact Natalie Bruno for assistance: bruno@greatlakeschambermusic.org

Endowment Funds:
An endowment fund provides a unique means of contributing for those people interested in making a lasting impact on the Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival. Endowment funds are invested for the long-term, offering ongoing stability while supplying additional revenue each year through returns gained on the investment. To date, donors have contributed over $400,000 in endowed funds to the Festival.
Here is a brief description of each:
The Stone Composer Endowment
The endowment fund was established in memory of Eunice and Joshua (Jim) Stone by their three daughters, Gwen Weiner, Marcy Klein, and Carol DePaul. Its purpose is to support the composer-in-residence program, and to foster young composers by presenting premieres of their original works.
The Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival Fund
This fund was established in honor of James Tocco with a bequest from Carol Harford, a close friend of Catherine Filene Shouse (for whom the Shouse Institute is named). This fund is structured to support the Festival in perpetuity.
Paul Katz Cello Chair in Memory of Morris D. Baker
A chair established by Beverly Baker in memory of Morris D. Baker, this fund supports a cellist at the Festival each year. The 2009 honoree is Yehuda Hanani.
Eugene Istomin Endowed Piano Chair
A chair established by James Tocco, this fund created an endowed position in the name of Eugene Istomin, one of the great pianists of the 20th century. In past years, the honor has gone to Ursula Oppens, Jeremy Denk, Wu Han, and Edward Auer. The 2009 honoree is Lisa Kaplan.
Rev. Msgr. Anthony M. Tocco Endowed Composition Chair
The chair was established in 2006 in honor of Rev. Msgr. Anthony Tocco through the Estate of the late Festival supporter, Wilda C. Tiffany. This fund’s proceeds will bring new compositions to life. The first work funded in part was Paul Schoenfield’s Refractions, premiered June 15-16, 2006.
Henry Meyer Endowed Violin Chair
This chair has been established in memory of Henry Meyer, longtime violinist of the LaSalle Quartet and the beloved founding director of the Festival’s Shouse Institute. Once it has reached its goal, this fund will support a violinist at the Festival each year. In part, this fund is supporting violinist Joseph Silverstein’s 2008 appearance.
Beverly Franzblau Baker Young Artist Chair
This chair was established by a gift from Beverly Baker in 2007. Each year, the proceeds from this fund will be used to sponsor the appearance of a young professional performer at the Festival. Violinist Nicolas Kendall will be the first honoree in 2008.

Planned Giving
There are many ways to ensure the future of the Great Lakes Chamber Music
Festival through a commitment made today. "Planned gifts" of cash, securities or other
assets can provide the donor with tax benefits, while helping sustain the long-term excellence
of the Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival. A charitable bequest can save on estate taxes
and create a meaningful legacy to assure that Festival programs continue for future generations.
With a planned gift to GLCMF, you may make a larger contribution than current
income permits. Charitable gifts made through estate planning can by fully deductible for tax
purposes. These gifts also may allow donors to endow a program or project in which they have
a special interest.
