The 2012 Festival will celebrate Russian masters including Stravinsky, Rachmaninoff, Tchaikovsky, and others. In four concerts at Seligman Performing Arts Center, the Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival will explore the music of Igor Stravinsky with performances of four large works by the famed Russian composer. These will include:
Les Noces (The Wedding) on opening night, Saturday, June 9. Les Noces features four pianists, four vocal soloists, a full choir, and eight percussionists.
The Rite of Spring on Saturday, June 16 and Sunday, June 17. This fully-staged version of Stravinksy's famous work will include two pianists, three percussionists, and will be performed by Eisenhower Dance Ensemble.
Mass and Concerto for Piano and Winds Instruments on closing night, Saturday, June 23. Detroit Chamber Winds & Strings and the Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival present the Detroit Symphony Orchestra in a spectacular final concert with Festival artists James Tocco, Anton Nel, Itamar Zorman and conductor H. Robert Reynolds.
